What is the 6 Hours of Imola?

The FIA WEC is the world championship for endurance racing, the same series as the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans. At Imola the cars race for six hours straight: the winner is whoever completes the most laps in the set time, with crews of three drivers taking turns at the wheel and pit stops that are decisive for the strategy. Two classes share the track: the Hypercars, the fastest prototypes, entered by manufacturers such as Ferrari, Toyota, BMW and Aston Martin, and the LMGT3 cars, derived from road-going grand tourers.

The Imola track, which winds among the hills and the Parco delle Acque Minerali (the Mineral Waters Park) and is run anticlockwise, puts drivers and machines to the test with its climbs, dips and most famous corners: Tamburello, Tosa, Piratella, Acque Minerali, Variante Alta and Rivazza. We tell its story in our guide to the Imola circuit.

How the 6 Hours of Imola 2026 went

In 2026 the race was held on 19 April and became the season opener of the World Championship, after the race in Qatar was postponed. Victory went to the number 8 Toyota of Sébastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley and Ryo Hirakawa, just over 13 seconds ahead of the number 51 Ferrari; in LMGT3 the win went to the number 69 BMW of Team WRT. Over the weekend the circuit welcomed 92,175 spectators.

And not just racing: around the track a real entertainment village sprang up, with the Fan Zone offering driving simulators, manufacturer displays, children’s areas and food stands, the Ferris wheel for a bird’s-eye view of the circuit, the Goodyear blimp over Imola and Martin Solveig’s DJ set on the Saturday evening.
